India wins first World Cup since 1983!

They didn't make it easy (with poor bowling in the last 10 overs, and 2 early wickets when batting), but India pulled out a victory last night and the country has been going crazy ever since.

We are now in downtown Delhi which is busier than Faridabad, but which does have tree-lined streets, parks and monuments. The food is more diverse than at our homestay, and even a little cheaper than in Thailand. This Thali sampler plate was $1.25. It filled me up, and was apparently enough for the 3 people who shared one at the table next to us.

We walked around the Chowri Bazaar yesterday because we'd heard it was a very large and interesting market. It was completely jam-packed with people, cars, bikes and taxis, and turned out to be the hub of industrial supply sales. Everything (casters, steel coils, fittings of all kinds, fasteners, door hardware, perforated steel sheets, felt and rubber sheeting, hose, tubing, power tools, actuators, chain hoists, rope, steel bars, bandsaw blades, etc.) was available, with each type of item sold at a store about 8 feet wide (facing the street) and 30 feet deep.

Maybe we were in the wrong bazaar area. Annie was much less interested in the wares than I was. Kind of like a third world McMaster-Carr, but with lower prices, a less organized product offering, and possibly The least convenient delivery system possible. You pick up and have to deal with the traffic.
