We watched parts of the India vs. Pakistan semi-final cricket match yesterday. It started at 2:30pm, and when the last wicket fell at 11pm, India emerged victorious. This prompted honking in the streets and lots of fireworks being set off outside. India plays Sri Lanka on Saturday in the first ever all-Asian World Cup finals matchup. India hasn't won a World Cup in 27 years (and is cricket obsessed) so there is a lot of pressure.
School was cancelled on Monday and Tuesday of this week because they were Polio vaccination days. We learned about this on Monday morning, so we had an unexpected 4-day weekend and lots of time to kill.
Monday we spent some time painting shapes and colors on the classroom walls and cleaned part of the room. On Tuesday we paid $0.10 to take a rickshaw (12 people in an open 3 wheeler...) to the movie theater to see 'Sucker Punch'. Movies are relatively expensive and cost around $4 each. An ice cream cone at McDonalds was $0.25.

Great pictures. That sure gives us an idea of what the "classroom" was like. Do the kids have parents? Originally I thought you said it was an orphanage.
ReplyDeleteOur placement changed when we arrived from the orphanage to the slum school. These kids all have at least one parent.
