Day of rickshaw riding

We received a few critical comments regarding the last post. People didn't think this part of the trip sounded fun. It is less fun, but still engaging and entertaining. Good books, wifi, and an energetic 4 year old keep us busy since there isn't much to do in the general vicinity of the house.

We took a break from school on Thursday and had a taxi drive us around to some of the sights of Delhi. The highlights included the Lotus Temple (one of 6 temples worldwide of the Baha'i faith). Hamayun's tomb (pictured), and a woman throwing up out the passenger window of a car (orange, and gross).

Today we went to sectors 1, 10, and 15 (exciting names, right?) to explore the markets and to see a movie. We watched Band Baaja Baaraat in Hindi and were able to understand probably 70% of the plot points. We went with another volunteer, and ended up taking 4 different trips on rickshaws (also called tuk-tuks). Most are small 3-wheeled carts with motors, but we also took one (slowly) that was pedal-powered. We saw more street monkeys today, and the first camel of the trip, which was trotting right in the middle of a busy street, pulling a cart.

Maybe a bit of painting the walls of the classroom tomorrow to spruce it up, and I bought a few picture books at the market to read during class on Monday.
