Last New Zealand post (note that this was drafted in Auckland and then posted once we had additional internet time in Bangkok). Good computers available here in the Auckland hostel (though we are running out of paid internet time at the moment). I'll post some of the pictures that have been stuck on the camera for the past few days. Also, Annie wanted me to correct two things. First, most of the albatrosses we saw were white-capped, which are larger than the gray-headed species. Second, her fish in the fishing picture was a bit diminutive. She caught many larger fish, including this beauty of a blue cod.
These are fur seals that we saw from a boat in Milford Sound. They are actually sea lions, because they can prop themselves up on their fins, as you can see. We saw probably 250 more when we were down on Stewart Island. They are quite agile and we saw them climbing up some steep rock faces. The driver of our boat on Stewart Island was explaining that the area is popular for great white sharks because of the number of seals and that he has seen some large sharks. People don't snorkel or SCUBA dive during those times of the year.
Here we are bird-watching on Ulva Island (mentioned in the previous post). There was lots of pointing involved.
